I took these photos at the San Diego Air and Space Museum on June 16, 2025. You may use them according to the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license.
The museum is located very close to San Diego International Airport. I managed to get this shot of an arriving plane.
Curtiss Wright R-1820 Cyclone
The museum had a cutaway R-1820 radial engine on display. I took these pictures because I found the inner workings of the engine to be quite nice to look at.

Here you can see the cams and rollers used for valve timing.
This photo shows the push rod that the roller in the previous photo is connected to. Normally, the push rods are covered by those black tubes you can see next to the cylinders on the rest of the engine.
