My cameras
As of September 2025, I have three cameras: A Nikon D5600, a Nikon FM, and an Olympus OM30.
The D5600 is a an entry level APS-C DSLR. It's a super light and comfortable camera when paired with the kit lens, so I use it when I want a digital camera that's effortless to carry around.
The FM is a mechanical 35mm film SLR from the 70's. I bought it used in August of 2025. It's a heavy and well built camera, but is slightly uncomfortable to hold due to the lack of scooped grip. I may attempt to design a grip for it in the future.
The OM30 is an electromechanical 35mm film SLR from the 80's. My grandfather gave it to me in September 2025 when he learned that I'm into film photography. Ergonomically, I much prefer the FM; the controls on the OM30 simply aren't as tactile or crisp. The OM30's viewfinder also does not display the currently set shutter speed or aperture, so shooting without using the autoexposure mode is quite tedious.
My lenses
I currently own four lenses. Three of them belong to the Nikon F mount, and one belongs to the Olympus OM mount.
Autofocus lenses:
- Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 18-55mm F3.5-5.6G VR. This is the standard zoom kit lens that comes with the D5600. It's astoundingly light and has no obvious optical flaws.
- Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300mm F4.5-6.3G. This lens is the second lens in the two-lens D5600 kit. It would be much nicer if it had vibration reduction.
Manual focus lenses:
- Nikon 50mm f1.8. A very small and lightweight 50mm prime. This lens came with my FM and pretty much stays on that camera at all times. Being an F mount lens, it's also compatible with my D5600, so it's also my go-to portrait lens for that camera (the APS-C crop makes it a 75ish mm equivalent lens).
- Tamron Adaptall 2 35-70mm f3.5-4.5. This is the lens my grandfather gave me with the OM30. According to him, it's a very sharp lens. Compared to my Nikon 50mm, the aperture ring is much mushier. Additionally, it's very difficult to distinguish the zoom and aperture rings by touch.
